Firing Arcs - Ologotai - 05-17-2014 04:31 AM

On example 32.3-2 - shouldn't that read "The Sopwith Camel would also use this gunnery arc if it completed a RIGHT facing change with its last flight point?"

In fact looking at the "Fixed Forward Fire Gunfire Arcs" - shouldn't the "Carrying" and "Facing" values be the same? e.g. A/C Carrying Right Facing and A/C Facing Right.

Or are they deliberately different to FW?

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy,

It has been a long time since this came up Smile

The intent was to show the effect of facing and leading a target on the aircraft FF gun arcs accurately.
The text in example 32.3-2 is correct.
An aircraft carrying a right facing change would have a gun arc along the 180 line and to the right, it's nose is somewhere between the 180 line and to the right since the facing change is not complete.
An aircraft completing a right facing change would have a gun arc left and to the 180 line, the gun arc show where the nose has been and target in that arc may be engaged.

I would never spin reality just to be different Wink

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks Steve

Seems counter-intuitive - but probably just because I've been used to FW!
